Discover Card is adding fraudulent charges added to unsuspecting consumers credit cards. How can it be that this company is allowed to add these charges to my credit card without my permission, and when confronted with my dispute say they have a 'taped recording' of my acceptance.

Discover has been charging us $109 per month for their "Payment Protection Plan" which we never signed up for. They claim that we signed up in July 08 which is when we were in Europe, so I know we didn't sign up.

At our request, they did an "investigation" claiming they had a voice recording of us authorizing the enrollment. We asked to hear it and they said that they couldn't share with us. WTF... They can't even tell us if it was a male or female on the phone. What kind of business are you running, Discover? We would really like to discover who, if anyone, authorized this. We are out over $1,000 and I personally would really like to have that money back.

Can this be legal?

Monetary Loss: $1000.

Location: Fort Worth, Texas

I just called Discover as I noticed this PPD charge on my account for the last 2 years and I never caught it before. ya, I am bad about keeping records.

So anyway, when I called and said I never authorized the service they said no problem we will cancel now AND credit you with all charges made since up to this point. Well, turns out I am getting amost 1k back and I did not have to listen to the recording or anyting. I think this is common practice for them and they are trying to avoid trouble. I was shocked that I did not ahve to prove anyting to them at all and to be honest, the guy on the phone was more than helpful.

When any CC company is nice and helpful something is up.

Check your bills people and call to dispute. There has to be a at least 3 recordings of you saying YES to their questions for the charge to be legit and they MUST be able to provide the recording to you.

I received a card yesterday regarding a class action lawsuit against Discover payment protection plan and I need to contact the sender regarding this matter.

I have been fighting these charges for over five years and I have been promised refunds.. told the services have been cancelled...

they are still robbing me. The Selden branch on middle country road enjoys robbing clients.

I too was enrolled in the Discover Payment Protection Plan without my consent. I disputed this in Sept 2011 and ,of course cancelled it.

To date they have credited me back about $1500.00.

They also had charged me unwarranted late fees and interest fees.

I have had this card since 1992 and I am not happy . Your card should

be there to protect you, not steal from you.

I signed up for the protection plan after being told by the agent that if I pay my statement in full each month (Which I do) that I would not incur any protection plan fees ever. First statement and they put a charge for the protection plan.

I disputed it and they told me it would take 4 weeks to investigate.

They credited me the amount and then exactly a month later they recharged the fee.

Company also told me after I had the card in hand I was not eligible for the bonus money for signing up.

Discover Credit Card Company is a scammer! Never ever do business with them!!!

I just found out that they have been charging me for some "payment protection plan" I never signed up for. They should definitely be put through criminal investigation and their fraudulent practices must be exposed to public so that people will be aware of the type of tactics Discover Credit Card Company is pulling off to victimize unsuspecting customers.

Never do business with Discover credit card company, they are *** people! They have some employees who work for them who give out peoples financial info (credit card number etc) with them to others. Then all of a sudden bogus charges are placed upon a person's account.

Then try getting it straightned out with them when they tell a customer it was them who put the charges on the account. No way would I ever do any kind of business with them!

Guest

they will find the tapes with your approval for enrollment, and if you said yes, then there is nonthing you can do about a refund. By law they have to record those type of things know days.

Just to bad people cannot control there finances, and you do not recieve a charge while your at a zeo ballence, because I have it, and it works fine for me. just pay of your ballences before the end of your billing periord.

I have a "Payment ProtectionPlan" on my Discover card. I was injured at work and had to have surgury and now am disabled.

We immediately activated the protection plan and they first only made two "half payments" then tried to draw from a closed account, then quit covering my payments. Now they tell me I;m $2000 over my limit on a card I havent used for over six years!

Theiving Bastages!! What can a person do to stop their adding fees to my balance??

I'm in the same boat as the rest of you... I decided to transfer my discover card balance to another credit card and when i checked my account online to see if the transfer had gone through i looked under transactions and saw where Discover has been charging me $40 a month for a Protection Plan PPD.

I'm like some of you i never sign up for the "extra" coverage/insurance on any of my credit cards so i know for a fact i didnt add this to my discover card. So i too called customer service and was told i had to of either agreed by phone, email or mail for this feature to be added. i clearly informed them i did not do so and i wanted proof as to how exactly i approved this because i know i didnt. And of course i was told an investigation would have to be opened and it could take up to 30 days to process, blah, blah, blah but she would cancel the extra coverage as of today if thats what i wanted.

i told her what i wanted was my approximately $650 back! I hate to hear I'm not the only one, but its interesting to find out this is happening to multiple people.

I dont see how they can legally do this and something needs to be done about it. I'm thinking about contacting Dateline about this to see if they'll take this story on and investigate our claims about Discover.

I have called for 4 months straight to payment protector to cancel it. Each time they tell me it's still not cancelled.

I spoke with a "supervisor" last time and they said I would be credited last month. I was never credited and I have been billed yet again.

This is ridiculous. Apparently I am going to have to cancel the card so they stop billing me.

Banks perfer you to pay off your balance every month. This in turn for you builds your credit .

Maxing out your credit hurts your credit score. I suppose the bank did a review on your credit score and found a high risk in your spending habits this in turn put you in a high risk catagory with the lender. remember the bank is lending you money on your credit history. Pay it off and the problem solved.

That's what I did and you know the freedom feels great . I do not depend anymore on the credit triangle. I have my 401 k and when I need the money I borrow from myself. Save your money.

You worked hard for it. In a want it now society it's great until you have to pay it back. I have credit cards that I keep at a low limit. Yes I pay them off every month .

I have a cushion now and don't think it wasn't hard to get there.

Get out of your circle of debt . Less is more believe me.

This identical *** happened to me, but with my Bank of America Visa card. I KNOW I never approved anything like this with my BOA/Visa card, because I specifically do not sign up for any of this extra "insurance" on anything!

When I called BOA to complain, the BOA customer service rep actually admitted to me that BOA sometimes mails out these promotions and when the customer does not respond, the charge goes on their BOA/Visa account. I keep all of my mail and never received such a promo letter from BOA. The BOA cs rep also confessed that BOA adds charges to their Visa accounts WITHOUT customer approval and relies on the customer to call BOA to remove it, insisting it is the customer's responsibility to remove the charge. Another thing that is weird about my situation with BOA is that I NEVER called BOA for anything, except to add my husband's name to my BOA/Visa card.

I want to know what we can do about this practice? I am out over $1,000 WHICH I NEVER APPROVED!!!

Through pure luck I discovered my enrollment for protection plan started on Nov. 17 and I found it on my bill today.

I called and had the fee removed and I also was told that I activated this service through my own volition.

I had not knowledge of it, no card activity yesterday, nothing... I believe that Discover deserves a thorough criminal investigation for fraudulent practices

In June I noticed a payment protection PPD on our statement of $30.00 per month. When I looked into it I found out they had been charging this fee for several months.

When I called to say I never authorized this they said that they never add it on without getting prior approval. I know for a fact we never added this PPD. The customer service rep said to me..If you never wanted this PPD then why did you not call us to inform us after the first statement you received. I told them the last few months I have been so busy with our new baby I just mailed in the check for payment and did not review our statements.

They were treating me like a child that was not telling the truth. They finally did an investigation and did credit our money back to the card. Well today 11/01/10 I went to review my bills and see they signed me up again for the payment protection without my approval!!!!!! I am currently on the phone with them right now.

The supervisor just told me that the person who originally credited our card back never finished the process of cancellation. I think they are idiots who are trying to take money from customers in the hopes that the customer does not review there statements!

Guest

same thing happened to me luckily, I noticed on my second statement adn call them up they said they would cancel it and refund me for for the 2 months, I will examine my card very thorughly next time I receive it.

I have been with discover since 2006 and have been paying into this so called "payment protection". So when I decided to switch jobs and called customer service to activate my payment protection program the agents i spoke with told me "since your covered under the payment protection you dont have to make any payments for up to 2 years" BullSh** first off i told them i was starting a new job in two weeks and wouldnt be able to make the minimum payment these fools told me since i did not start my new job they couldnt do anything for me and if they could it would take up to two billing cycles to be in effect, (mind u the due date is two days away from my starting date at a new job)....

WTF so I'll be charged many late fee's and who knows what else and this would ruin my credit.

Discover is *** and Im canceling them ASAP wouldnt reccommend anyone to them. :(

I knew what it was and agreed to it. I was hurt last month and tried to use the plan while not working and u have to jump through hoops.

First you have to wait 15 days from the last day you worked or were injured (which ever is sooner) then you have to wait up to 2 billing statement for it to get approved so it will deffer your bill.

I canceled it, but Im arealy out all the money I paid to the plan in good faith. What I want to know is there any one who has had a good case with this protection plan????
